i've always been a quitter
make me feel like i never ever wanna give you up, til now
Kaylee was honestly really; really glad that the Saugerties show had ended. She had entered Bay in their regular classes, but decided to scratch at the last minute. She had more than enough points to go to Nationals, and she was just getting tired of the every weekend showing routine. She needed a break. The girl was hard-pressed to admit it, but she knew at the pit of her stomach that she was starting to get burned out. The thought made her gut churn, because she knew she couldn’t afford to slack off in any aspects. Showing, well, that would be fine – she didn’t need to show again until Nationals, and she knew with plenty of practice she would hold her own at the year-end final. But as for everything else…no offense to her lovely sister, but Molly didn’t exact run the business side of the farm. That’s why Kaylee had gone to college; she knew she would need some business skills or something like it to keep Coventry successful. They were swimming in cash, but it was a matter of doing a lot of paperwork to keep everything going smoothly.
And that, of course, was what the blonde was doing at the moment. The door to the office was nearly closed, but the girl had decided to leave it open a crack just in case anyone needed to come in. Who would even bother at this time of day, she wasn’t really sure – it was getting to be around seven o’clock in the evening, and Kay was pretty sure by this time Coventry would have quieted down, and people would have hurried off after saying goodnight to their horses. Molly would be feeding some time soon, or at least her sister hoped so, because she could hear horses banging their feet against the wood of their stalls and whinnying shrilly, pawing and making noise in anticipation of their dinner. The noise was getting to be incredibly distracting though, so the blonde got up from her desk and wandered over to the stereo they had in there. She already had left one of her favorite CDs in there, so all she had to do was press play and turn up the volume before the little wooden office became its own little world.
As the blonde made her way back to her desk, she started sorting through some of the newer papers on her desk – a couple of new boards had come to Coventry, and left their first month’s boarding deposit and some other things in an envelope on the desk, addressed in a neat masculine font, ’Parker’. Kaylee untucked the flap of the envelope and pulled out the check inside – it was from a Hunter Dean, although she didn’t know exactly who that was. She figured she would ask Molly soon, the younger Parker sister often had more run-ins with the new boarders than Kaylee did, whether she saw them riding or at the club. Kaylee hadn’t gotten out much lately, which was strange – she went in spurts, I suppose, of clubbing and drinking almost every night to becoming a recluse. She knew it drove Molly crazy, but she couldn’t afford to be stumbling home drunk every night, it would look a little bad for business. But I suppose that’s what you have to deal with when you decide to run a huge farm. She had gotten herself into all of this, so she would have to deal with the consequences. Feeling in a slightly bitter mood now, the girl grabbed a nearby remote for the stereo and turned the volume up a tad, feeling a rush of exhilaration as the familiar percussive beats filled the room of the song Viva La Vida by Coldplay. She couldn’t help but sing along, her soft feminine vocals an octave higher than Chris Martin’s but not sounding terribly out of tune. As she sifted through her paperwork in record time, she couldn’t help but feel a little more relaxed. Music helped everything, didn’t it?!
